speaking in Tongues

Page history last edited by Andrew Alder 2 years, 11 months ago

A page of theology and probably also an unpopular essay, and a work in progress. Watch this space.

Many times I have seen people invited to the front of a Pentecostal church to receive the Gift of Tongues.

Hands are laid on them. That is good. Prayers are said. That is good.

And then instruction is given. Coaching. And that is terribleIf you want this sort of coaching, then go to any school of contemporary singing and learn scat_singing.

But scatting is nonsense. Tongues are meaningful. So please, don't scat and call it the Gift of Tongues.

God is blessing the Church through the Gift of Tongues. But give God a break. If you want your mouth to be filled with praise, don't let some well-meaning idiot fill it with rubbish.

And if you are one of those well-meaning idiots, it is not too late. Repent. Read 1 Corinthians 12-14, get your facts straight, and get about your real ministry of serving those praying for the Gift of Tongues. Give them the real thing.

You will not regret it. At worst, it may get you thrown clean out of your current congregation. And if so, that may be very painful but it is for the best. Trust God.

But there is a far more exciting possibility. You may be able to introduce your congregation to the real Gift of Tongues. And trust me, that will be more exciting than you could ever imagine.
