As anyone who has read my greenwashing page knows, I tried to invent that term and failed, because it had already been invented... rather ironically, it seems by those who are themselves guilty of it.

 

Ironic but not surprising really. See how to reveal yourself without really trying.

 

But I think they got the term right.

 

So here is my second grab for etymological glory:

 

Greenhanded: Caught lying in order to save the world, in particular applied to environmental (Green) politics, but also seen for example in consequentialist thought.

 

For examples, see Patrick Moore and Greenpeace and sex lies and Nuclear Power.

 

Note that this usage has no connection to Holman the greenhanded whose name however preceded this usage.
