The class is charged with the grandeur of thought
It will fade out, like thunder from struck gong
It gathers to creation, like to be strong
Crushed.
Why do men then not wreck his sort?
Generations have fought, have fought, have fought
And all is talked with trade, talked, forked along
And wears his look and shares his stance, the throng
Is dumb now, nor can thought feel, being taught.
A poem written by Andrew Alder in 1970, while studying HSC English. See also King Lear.
The original title borrowed the English teacher's name, which started with G, and it would be unfair to repeat it here... He did his best which was pretty good other things considered.
