My definition of expert:

 

Someone who has already made most of their mistakes.

 

Deliver me from the person who never makes mistakes, or thinks they do. What this really means is that they never learn anything. And that, to say the least, is dangerous to everyone they meet, and particularly to anyone (including themselves) who imagines them to be an expert.
