A man walks into a bar, and asks the barkeeper for a beer.

The barkeep says "Certainly, Sir, that will be $4.50 thank you"

The man starts to get the money out, but then notices that the barkeep is making no attempt to get a glass or the beer. He says "Is there something wrong?"

"Oh", says the barkeep, "We don't have any beer, it's a planned outage. That will be $4.50 please."

"But... you aren't going to give me the beer, and you expect me to pay for it anyway? Is that what I'm hearing?" says the man incredulously.

"Listen, mate, we're running a business here. We can't afford to have people order drinks they don't pay for. That will be $4.50 please."

"This is outrageous!" storms the customer. "In no other industry..." and then he stops midsentence, because the barkeeps expression has changed to one of truly grotesque horror.

"Oh mate" the barkeep says "I'm sorry, I'm really, really sorry. I don't have any beer, but can I pour you a scotch on the house? I need one myself."

He pours two generous whiskies. They each add a little water and sip their drinks. The barkeep says sadly "I suppose you'd like an explanation."

"I am a bit curious" says the customer. "What was all that about?"

"Oh mate" says the barkeep, "I've done it before and I'm sure I'll do it again. You see I used to work for NBN."

They sip their drinks in mutual understanding.

This is original, fictional humour. If you saw it somewhere else and it wasn't attributed there, gently suggest they might give credit where credit is due.
